Sigrid Hemels is a professor of tax law at Erasmus University Rotterdam School of Law and also a visiting professor at Lund University School of Economics and Management in Sweden. She conducts research on various topics related to taxation, but since 2001 one of her research topics has been taxation and tax measures for art, culture and patronage. She has published and spoken on this subject both in the Netherlands and abroad. Among other things, she is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Geneva Centre for Philanthropy (University of Geneva) and of the scientific advisory committee for the research project Geven in Nederland (Giving in the Netherlands) (Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam). In addition, she has been a supervisor of cultural institutions and endowment funds and was chair of the scientific advisory committee of the Cultuurmonitor (Culture Monitor) (a project of the Boekman Foundation, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science).
